We Shall Overcome. These next four years will be our litmus test
Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., events in Washington remind us how far we still have to go. Our republic faces a moment of intense division, yet this is exactly why Dr. King’s legacy matters more than ever.
Dr. King wasn’t a saint — he was human. But he had the courage to defy the status quo at great personal risk. He endured terror, setbacks, and relentless opposition. Unfortunatly, he died before he could finish his work.
It has been said that one man with courage makes a majority. Dr. King’s legacy taught us to stand tall in the face of injustice. He taught us to make the right choice, regardless of consequence.
Throughout history, activists, writers, journalists, politicians, artists and regular citizens have spoken truth to power, often at great expense to themselves. In the beginning, these people were often alone in their convictions, but they stood firm until society caught up with them.
Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that progress requires bold action and enduring hope. His words, challenge us to measure ourselves by our response to adversity, not by moments of comfort.
