One of the perks of working for yourself is turning business errands into family getaways. Back in my law firm days, I decided to hand deliver a settlement check to an elderly client who lived in a small Washington coastal town instead of mailing it. This allowed her to get her money faster and saved her the hassle of sending me back copies of a signed release or traveling two hours to my Salem, Oregon office just to complete paperwork.
