The Secret Magic of Weeping Willow Trees

The most magical place I’ve ever been was a weeping willow tree in our backyard in Aloha, Oregon — a sleepy suburb of Portland. We only lived there for four years, but my younger sister and I lived many lifetimes amidst the wild, dropping vines of that mystic tree.

Children's literature is filled with magic wardrobes, rabbit holes, and tornadoes, but none of those stories ever fully captures the bittersweetness of having to return to the mundane after being emersed in the fantastical.
