Not sure How India’s current prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi can make India a global super power by 2050, but there are very convincing arguments that say India can never be a super power because how can we progress faster when we are terribly slow to correct our ongoing deficiencies. PriceWaterhouse Coppers says that by 2050 China will have a GDP of $61 trillion to the U.S. $41 trillion and that looks good.

Let’s talk about all the pressing issues that we are going to face by 2050

Water Crisis To Kill Smart Cities

“Make in India”, “Digital India”, “Smart Cities”, all good. What are doing about some of the real crisis situations that are already right in front of our eyes; and just because media will not bring it on the front page so we as citizens of India will not notice and politicians and governments have little interest in those issue as we are not data-driven anyway; we are all media-driven. Good or bad, if it’s on television and at prime time we get excited otherwise all crap.

Dams have run dry, water tanker mafia is growing every day, more and more states have been declared drought-affected. Considering the current economic scenario, population growth and available natural resources scientists conclude there is a “high risk of severe water stress” in much of an area that is home to roughly half the world’s population.

Population Bomb

The world’s population will reach 9.7 billion by 2050, the UN has reported, and India will overtake China as the world’s most populous country by 2022. The population of 28 African countries is expected to double by 2050.

Climate Change To Cause Additional 130,000 Deaths

India will be among the worst hit countries and face a large number of deaths due to changes in diets and body weight from reduced crop productivity, according to a new study on climate change led by the University of Oxford.

In India, it is roughly 1.3 million deaths a year in 2013. According to the study, air pollution causes more deaths than other risk factors like malnutrition, obesity, alcohol and drug abuse, and unsafe sex. The Global Burden of Disease Project puts it as the fourth greatest risk behind high blood pressure, dietary risks and smoking. In India, the problem this draws particular attention is the practice of burning wood, dung, crop residues and other materials for cooking and heating, and this indoor pollution is more dangerous than outdoor pollution

“So, through to 2050, this growth overshadows the emissions controls (in our projections) and will lead to an increase in future air pollutant emissions in 2050 in India.”

Antimicrobial Resistance Would Claim An Estimated Million Lives In India

Lord Jim O’Neill, the renowned economist recently said “The productivity of the Indian economy will be severely impaired. India will never reap the demographic dividend, which would have been a global advantage for the country,”

He almost warned that the country will fail to reach this “exciting potential” if it doesn’t scale up its effort to tackle the rising antimicrobial resistance “

330 Million Elderly People (20% Of The Population)

With the demands of India’s youthful population are not yet met, how India will manage to motivate this 20% of the elderly population when there is absolutely no financial and organizational support. In this fast-paced life of India’s youth that is influenced by western culture; this 20% of the elder population might take a hit when their usefulness is not so visible in this transaction world.

Forget about doing something for them exclusively, is our medical ecosystem well-equipped to meet the health challenges they will face? It’s better if you now start working on new skills that keep you useful until your last day.

Well, India needs to act fast and India just can’t say:-

There can’t be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full. -Henry Kissinger
