Ernest Hemingway’s Six-Word Story Reimagined:
A Modern Tale of Hope and Generosity
This is my response to the challenge Sophia Tell- Stories 🤓📢🤓 posted. It is my interpretation of Ernest Hemingway’s six-word story: “For Sale: Baby shoes never worn.”
“How can something so natural, be so difficult!”
Juana moaned to her husband Malcolm.
The Jackson-Del Rio’s have been trying to get pregnant since 2014. Juana was thirty years old and Malcolm was thirty-five when they got married and started to make every effort to get pregnant.
They were a happy, laidback couple eager to raise their own child. They also planned to adopt and foster children.
As they tried and failed to get pregnant, several years went by quickly.
During the COVID pandemic, they stopped trying. Fear and fatalism felt bigger and more insurmountable than the highest peaks in the Himalayas.
After the pandemic dissipated, glimmers of possibilities slowly emerged and warmed Juana and Malcolm’s hopes.
