This ancient magnificent temple , built during Vikrama chola ( 1117 -1135 AD ) is in ruins & uncared . As the king was suffering from ven kustam ( leucoderma ) he continued praying to Abayasahayeswarar (siva) & his consort Soundaranayaki ( Parvati ) & his disease was cured , in gratitute he built this temple in this ancient place called Durga attchi — ( Durga rules, later became to known as Thukkachi ) Its some 15 kms from Kumbakonam via Natchiyar koil ,to a remote village in Thukkachi . This temple ruins can be reached from Kumbakonam via Nachiyar koil , this remote Thukkachi village is some 14 kms from Kumbakonam. There is the famous Paadhiri tree in the temple complex.
