The instant I start speaking with Dr. Jolene Brighten on the phone, the energy shifts. Her voice is both friendly and authoritative. I recognize I’m in the presence of a healer and patient advocate — one who knows her stuff. She’s a busy clinician and serious scientist as well.

Dr. Brighten is a Functional Medicine Naturopathic Physician and the founder of Root Cause Women’s Health, a women’s medicine clinic that specializes in women’s hormones. She’s in the business of helping women understand and take power back around their health. Along with education and empowerment, Dr. Brighten believes we need to flip the script in women’s medicine — where everything is diagnosed as “dysfunction” — and instead, embrace that the cyclical nature of female hormones as our superpower.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interview this international speaker, clinical educator, medical advisor, and author of the new book Beyond the Pill. I got the sense right away that this leading expert in women’s medicine really loves her work, and enjoys answering questions from people like me.

Compounding interest for your health
