How Time Blocking Saved My Sanity

And helped me do more than I ever thought I could

I am one of the most unorganized people you will EVER meet. And I mean that. I am forgetful. I lose things. I am always late. And I can never seem to get anything finished without having an anxiety attack first.

Most of my life I’ve just felt like I’m trying to catch up and I finally had enough. So I started researching different organization techniques and I tried and failed at a ton of them.

What I finally discovered works best for me is a modified version of time blocking combined with an end of the day “brain dump”.

What is a brain dump?

For me, a brain dump is when I get all of my thoughts written out on paper. On extremely overwhelming days I might do this four or five times in a 24-hour period, but normally I restrict myself to only once at night.

I literally sit down and just write anything and everything for about 5 minutes. It normally doesn’t make sense but it is a great way to get rid of all of the things swirling in my mind to enable me to really focus on what’s important.

Then the second part of my nightly “brain dump” is to write down everything I need to do for the next day. I don’t worry about priority or anything like…
