If not, you’re missing out…

Put down the razor and DIY wax pots, it’s time to try at-home laser hair removal. At-home IPL devices are now advanced enough to compete with professional services meaning you can save your purse…it’s the future of hair removal!

What is IPL?

IPL or intense pulsed light therapy is a form of light therapy used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes to remove unwanted hair, treat dark patches, and reduce signs of aging. It’s considered a ‘non-ablative’ resurfacing technique meaning it targets the lower layers of the dermis (skin) without affecting the top layers.

It uses high-intensity wavelengths of light pulses to improve the texture of skin and prevent hair regrowth. You can use IPL anywhere on your body and it can treat a range of skin issues.

How does it work?

The high-speed pulses of light from the device target the hair root forcing the hair into its resting phase meaning it falls out and over time, your body grows less hair in that targeted area. It works due to the pigment in your hair called melanin that absorbs the light from the laser flashes, disabling growth in the hair follicle.

The light energy is absorbed into target cells with colour or chromophores in the skin and converted into heat energy, which causes controlled damage in the specific area.

How do at-home devices compare to salon services?

At-home devices are getting smarter with compatible apps, cooling systems, and ultra-fast flashes so you can laser with convenience and do your treatment in just 10 minutes. But do they stack up to professional laser services?

For those looking for convenient, simple, effective laser hair removal, at-home devices offer fast and easy treatments that don’t require a trip to a clinic. They offer long lasting hair removal results, painless, safe and non-invasive treatment, and cut out all the fussy parts of in-person treatment that might be putting you off. These at-home alternative hair removal solutions can effectively reduce hair growth but potentially at a slower rate than salon laser as they are typically weaker. But patience is a virtue as they can offer great results with consistent use in the right areas plus you’ll save on the hefty price tag of treatments too!

Will laser work on my skin?

IPL technology works because it targets melanin in the hair so it works best on those with darker hair and can be less effective on those with fair hair. A contrast between light skin and dark hair also creates the best conditions for effective treatment because the laser can target the melanin with greater accuracy. Though dark, coarse hair and pale skin work best for laser hair removal, IPL is becoming smarter and more available for those with dark skin or light hair.

How to use at-home devices

Specialist devices have multi-purpose functions for larger targeted treatments and more precise areas with different sensitivities for different areas of the skin. They also have safe skin sensors and cooling features so you can be sure that you’re doing the treatment safely with minimal damage to your skin.

Prior to treatment, you should apply a cooling gel to help with the warm sensations of the laser and help the device glide more easily over the targeted area. Then you need to activate the device by plugging it in, charging it or connecting it with the paired app to adjust the setting and press the device firmly on the skin while pressing the flash button and moving the device around the targeted area after eacg flash…it’s that easy! It’s also important not to expose the targeted skin to the sun after treatment and be sure to avoid tanning lotions, skin irritants, and deodorant for at least 24 hours to prevent irritation or discolouration.

Benefits of laser hair removal

Laser doesn’t cause irritation to the skin’s surface like waxing and shaving might so you can say goodbye to razor burn, unruly rashes and ingrown hairs.

It’s long-lasting saving you years of shaving!

Laser is pretty pain-free and comfortable compared with alternatives like epilating and waxing.

It will give you smoother skin than other forms of hair removal by targeting the root so no more prickly regrowth!

So what are you waiting for? At-home laser hair removal is the way to go…
