The battle between should and could is always raging. It’s time to take back your life, and your sense of control. Today is the perfect day to own your choices, and stop “shoulding” on yourself. But that’s crazy hard, you may be thinking. Yes, yes it is. But worth every hour that it works. I’ve been trying to ditch the should lately — from my vocabulary and my life. What would happen if you did the same?

Most people have a list of things a mile long that they “should” be doing. But what does it mean when you “should” do something? Usually, it means you feel like it needs to get done for one reason or another, but it’s not really what you want to be doing. Often, doing something we should means giving up on something else we’d like to be doing.

But what happens when we change up the language a little bit?

Challenge yourself for the next 24 hours. Every time you find yourself saying or thinking “I should do that” switch your language around. Try removing should and putting could, or will, or would like to, or am going to in its place. Then see if it changes how you feel about doing the task.

It’s interesting what that does to the choices you make, and how you feel about them.

What could you be doing right now?
