Where is the best place to meditate? How is the best way to prepare for it? Meditation is simple. You can do it anywhere you like, as long as you feel comfortable. But if you want to make your meditation experience more tranquil, here are five tips and tricks on how to set the mood.

Light a candle or incense

For some people, the smell of a burning candle or incense is calming. If this applies to you, go ahead and light it up. This may help you stay calm and focused throughout your meditation session. An alternative option is to spray a soft scent that calms you — lavender is my favourite.

Dim the lights

There is something calming about dimmed lights — perhaps it helps our eye muscles relax, or it sends a signal to our brain that it is time to slow down and relax. If you can’t dim your lights, turn off your main light and put on a night light or a lamp with soft lighting.

Play calming music

If you have a playlist of calming music, put it on. If you don’t have your own playlist, go on YouTube and search for any type of music that you know will help you relax. Spa music is usually my go-to. If you are using your phone, make sure to turn it to silent to avoid distractions. If you’re using your computer, turn off the screen to minimize distractions.

Do light stretches

Depending on what type of meditation you’re about to practice, you might sit down or lie down for a few minutes. Before getting into position, do a few light stretches to loosen up your muscles.

Set your intention

Why are you meditating? What do you want to get out of this session? Set your intention by saying it in your head, or out loud before you begin your session, and whenever you struggle staying focused.

There you go. I hope this helps you set up the perfect ambiance for your meditation session!
