Time as Building Blocks of The Life You Want

The one thing we can never make more of, is time. I don’t remember who said that, but I do remember the deep feeling of panic that washed over me the first time I heard and really understood that. But it did have a positive effect, which was to make me think about how I was spending my time and to examine why the thought bothered me so much.

So let’s do a little exercise together on this one. Imagine that you find out that the day of your death is precisely 6 months from today. (I know, I know — it’s depressing and also not original, but it sure is useful). What does your next 6 months look like? What would you do, or change, or give up caring about?

And yes, you know what comes next. Why on earth — knowing how you feel about these things — would you NOT just get started today on making that life you’ve just envisioned for yourself a reality?

Sometimes it can seem a bit overwhelming to face down a new reality, especially if you find that it is really different from what you are currently living. But what if you just focus on one little change that gets you closer to that life? All it takes is one little building block of time. You don’t have to dedicate hours each day to it. Just one small chunk of time each day — even 5 or 10 minutes. And what if you just took one little chunk of time every day and turned it into a step towards the life you want? Just imagine that you lived past that 6 month deadline… what would happen then?

I can’t say for sure what kind of timeline you’d be on (your life, your steps, your business) but I think it’s safe to say that eventually you just might find yourself living exactly the life you had wanted for yourself. And having longer than 6 months to live it.

What do you think? Sound reasonable? Good. Let’s all get on our there and make a tiny block of time each and every day (yes, start TODAY!) to take one little step towards living the life we want.
