“The 6Ds are a chain reaction of technological progression, a road map of rapid development that always leads to enormous upheaval and opportunity.” P. Diamandis

Crafted by Peter Diamandis, who is a successful businessman with a vast expertise in the field of technology and enjoys worldwide renown within the business-educational sphere, the ‘6Ds of Exponential Organizations’ or ‘The 6Ds to Exponential Growth’ are generally used to post-facto identify disruptive technologies once they pass certain thresholds. With more difficulty and less certainty, the 6Ds can be used as a framework to attempt to identify future technologies and projects that might meet the criteria that have been put forward by Diamandis.

In other words, the 6Ds are like a map that can show what can happen when an exponential technology is born. Not every phase is easy to identify, but the results offer the power to change the world in a faster and more impactful way than a traditional business could, even with small teams.

Exponential technologies tend to go from a deceptively slow development rhythm to a disruptively fast rhythm. Most often, technologies are not noticed or taken into account in their deceptive growth phase until they start to change the way we live and do business. Supported by informational technologies, certain products and services become sequentially Digitized, Deceptive, Disruptive, Demonetized, Dematerialized, and Democratized.

The secret to positively impacting the lives of millions of people is understanding and internalizing the growth cycle of digital technologies.

Here are the 6Ds Diamandis talks about, in more detail:

Digitized: “Anything that is digitized […] becomes information-based technology and enters exponential growth.”

Deceptive: “When something is digitized, its initial period of growth is deceptive because exponential trends don’t seem to grow very fast at first.”

I.e. initial exponential growth can be such a small increase (say, 0.01% to 0.02%) that it goes largely unnoticed until — at first.

Disruptive: “The existing market for a product or service is disrupted by the new market the exponential technology creates because digital technologies outperform in effectiveness and cost.”

In other words, either a new market is created or an old one is overturned. You either disrupt yourself, or you are disrupted.

Demonetized: “Money is increasingly removed from the equation as the new technology becomes cheaper, often to the point of being free.”

Practically, the major assets in said industry become free. Free music, free reading, free communication.

Dematerialized: “Separate physical products are removed from the equation. Technologies that were bulky or expensive — radio, camera, GPS, video, phones, maps are now all in a smartphone […].”

I.e. complete removal of the original product, lumping alarm clocks, cameras, notebooks, and phones into one smartphone.

Democratized: “Once something is digitized, more people can have access to it. Powerful technologies are no longer only for governments, large organizations, or the wealthy.”

The costs drop so low that the technology becomes available to everyone.

Due to the 6Ds being descriptive and not prescriptive, one can not simply become an ‘exponential organization’. However, all the actions that a project takes, all of the decisions made, and the wider market and culture around them can lead to becoming exponential. A project can aim to become exponential, but can’t force such an outcome.

Welthee is an investment fund focused on exponential projects. As per ‘the 6Ds of exponential organizations’, we aim to become a sequentially Digitized, Deceptive, Disruptive, Demonetized, Dematerialized, and Democratized cryptographic blockchain investment fund. Our main focus is risk mitigation. In line with this vision, Welthee aims to help millions of people invest with the exact risk they are comfortable with, within otherwise volatile markets — this has never been possible before. Investing in technologies that result in streamlined, compact, and cost-effective solutions, our platform wishes to achieve nothing less than to revolutionize the investment industry.

The six stages follow a logical progression:

The first period involves the goods or services becoming ‘digitized’, giving said new technological goods and services access to roughly the same growth seen in classical computing.

The immediate next step is the ‘deceptive’ period, when exponential growth is not immediately evident and will likely be mistaken for slow, linear growth.

The third stage is the ‘disruptive’ period, in which the traditional market where a product is situated is disrupted by the new market formed by the exponential technology. A major shift can take place here, from the perspective of the market, as the new tech-based market starts to overtake and even ends up encompassing the old one.

The period immediately after is the ‘demonetized’ period, in which the evolution of the technology brings with it cost reduction, the technology becoming increasingly cheaper as it evolves.

In the penultimate stage, ‘dematerialized’, a technology/service loses most of its physical aspects and tends to become bundled with other similar technologies in a larger, more useful, package (for example, the host of technologies and services available in a smartphone via various apps — many of which used to be more cumbersome technologies that had to be used by themselves).

Finally, we have the ‘democratized’ period, in which the cost and barrier to entry is reduced so much so that mass access to the technology in question is achieved — meaning that everyone can now acquire and use previously exclusive tech!

In line with the 6Ds philosophy, Welthee aims to invest in companies that have the potential to follow these development stages.

To further help with the selection process, we have identified six phases in the life of any business: setup, startup, rapid growth or death, maturity, decline, and rebirth or death.

Our plan is to invest in the ‘rapid growth’ phase and thus sidestep the most dangerous/unprofitable moments in business investment strategies. Furthermore, Welthee will invest in companies that have a great product and a brilliant team, and which received financing from at least one other VC fund. Also, it is important that the roadmap for the following year has major events that give a good chance for the token price (if applicable), to grow by 500%. To help with this, we have developed our own formula for selecting the companies we invest in.

We live in incredible times: news travels the world in an instant; music, movies, books, games, communication, and knowledge are always available on our digital devices. Fields such as biotechnology or artificial intelligence, powerful technologies that were once available only to huge organizations and governments become more accessible to the public due to digitalization.

The potential for entrepreneurs to disrupt industries and corporate giants to disappear unexpectedly has never been higher.

The secret to positively impacting the lives of millions of people is understanding and internalizing the growth cycle of digital technologies, as presented by Peter Diamandis within his 6D framework.
