Introducing Applepie: Phase02 of WEMIX3.0
On October 20, 2022, WEMIX3.0 embarked on a journey to embrace decentralized technology and democratized governance with a validated node governance structure of 40 nodes. Through the creation of the genesis block, we successfully introduced democratic governance.
WEMIX3.0 Phase02, also known as ‘Applepie’, aims to elevate and upgrade governance to new heights through a hard fork. The name symbolizes the boundless possibilities that lie ahead, like a mix of dough created jointly by the foundation and the community. By revealing a codename in alphabetical order, we aim to facilitate community understanding.
The governance of WEMIX3.0 Phase02 will undergo the following changes through the Applepie:
- End of Grand Staking: The 10% Permanent Minting Reward(PMR) previously given to Grand Staking participants will be discontinued. Instead, the NCP reward allocated to the 40Wonders will increase from the existing 40% to 50%. Participants will be able to withdraw both their deposits and rewards upon the completion of Grand Staking.
- Introduction of Wonder Staking: The community can select specific nodes from the 40 validating nodes to delegate their staked WEMIX. There are no limitations on the criteria for selecting a validation node to delegate among the 40Wonders. Participants can choose nodes with low fees to maximize staking rewards or stake with nodes actively engaged in community activities to show their support. With the discontinuation of the fixed 1.5M staking, the distribution of the Permanent Minting Reward(PMR) will be proportional to the staking amount for each node.
Additionally, the following features will be added:
- Introduction of Fee Delegation: A delegated payment structure will be implemented where specific service providers can pay the gas fees on behalf of users. This will assist services aiming for mass adoption of blockchain and complex concepts, leading to quantitative growth of the ecosystem and the community.
- Addition of VRF(Verifiable Random Function): We have enabled the verification of random functions on the WEMIX3.0 on-chain, allowing them to be utilized effectively in various tests.
- Enhancement of the basic gas fee modification logic: We have implemented improvements to handle scenarios where the maximum default gas fee is lower than the current default gas fee, enabling the possibility of setting transaction fees to 0. This enhancement allows services conducting tests on WEMIX3.0 or building private chains to conveniently configure gas fees as 0. It’s important to note that this modification does not affect the mainnet.
Furthermore, the updates that were scheduled but will be postponed are as follows:
- Introduction of asset confiscation functionality(penalization) as a penalty for malicious node operations.
In line with this, the code for implementing the testnet was applied on Github on May 11, 2023. The testnet will be activated from testnet block number 26240268 onwards, starting on May 17th (Wednesday) at 12:00 PM (KST).
Following the testnet release, the mainnet hard fork is scheduled for mid-June. The conclusion of Grand Staking and the commencement of Wonder Staking will be sequentially implemented through governance decisions.

2022년 10월 20일, 위믹스3.0은 탈중앙화된 기술과 민주화된 거버넌스(decentralized technology, democratized governance)를 기치로 40개의 검증된 노드 거버넌스 구조로 시작하고 단계적으로 민주적 거버넌스의 도입을 선포하며 제네시스 블록을 생성했습니다.
이러한 거버넌스 업그레이드를 위한 위믹스3.0 phase02가 곧 여러분에게 선보일 예정이며, 이번 하드포크의 이름은 애플파이(applepie)입니다. 재단과 커뮤니티(we)가 함께 만들어가는 복합적인 블록체인 세상의 틀은 정답이 존재하지 않습니다. 이러한 무한한 가능성을 내포하고 있는 반죽(mix)으로 만들어내는 첫번째 코드네임이 애플파이이며, 향후 알파벳 순서로 작명해 나가 커뮤니티의 이해를 돕도록 하겠습니다.
위믹스3.0 phase02 애플파이는 아래와 같이 거버넌스가 변화됩니다.
- 그랜드스테이킹 종료: 위믹스 그랜드스테이킹 참여자들에게 지급되던 10%의 PMR(블록민팅보상)이 폐지되고, 40Wonders의 NCP보상이 기존 40%에서 50%로 증가하게 됩니다. 또한, 그랜드스테이킹이 종료됨에 따라 예치금과 보상을 모두 인출할 수 있습니다.
- 원더스테이킹의 탄생: 이후 커뮤니티는 40개의 검증 노드들 중에서 특정 노드를 선택해 자신의 스테이킹된 위믹스를 위임할 수 있습니다. 40Wonders 중에서 자신이 위임할 검증 노드를 선택하는 기준에 제한은 없습니다. 수수료율이 낮아 스테이킹 보상이 상대적으로 많은 노드를 선택해도 되고, 위믹스 커뮤니티를 위해 활발한 커뮤니티 활동을 벌이는 노드에 스테이킹함으로써 지지의사를 밝힐 수도 있습니다. 150만 고정 스테이킹이 폐지됨에 따라 블록민팅보상(PMR)은 노드별 스테이킹 수량에 비례하여 배분되어 지급됩니다.
또한, 아래와 같은 기능이 추가됩니다.
- 수수료 대납 기능의 도입: 특정 서비스 제공자가 이용자의 가스비를 대신 납부하는 대납구조가 추가됩니다. 이를 통해 어려운 개념의 블록체인과 서비스의 매스어답션(mass adoption)을 추구하는 서비스들이 에코시스템과 커뮤니티를 양적으로 키우는데 도움이 될 것입니다.
- VRF(Verifiable Random Function) 검증 기능의 추가: 위믹스3.0 온체인 상에서 랜덤함수를 검증할 수 있게 되어 각종 테스트 등에서 유용하게 사용될 수 있도록 하였습니다.
- 기본가스비 변경 로직 개선: 현재 기본가스비보다 최대 기본가스비가 더 작아지는 경우에 대한 처리를 추가하여 거래수수료를 0으로 설정가능하도록 변경하였습니다. 이를 통해, 위믹스3.0 기반 위에서 테스트를 진행하거나 프라이빗 체인을 구축하려는 서비스의 가스비를 0으로 설정할 수 있습니다. 메인넷에는 영향을 미치지 않습니다.
그리고, 예정되어 있었으나 연기된 업데이트는 다음과 같습니다.
- 악의적 노드 운영에 따른 페널티인 자산 몰수 기능은 도입을 연기하였습니다.
이에 따라, 어제인 2023년 5월 11일 깃허브에 테스트넷 적용을 위한 코드를 적용하였으며, 테스트넷은 5월 17일(수) 12:00 PM(KST) 테스트넷 블록번호 26240268부터 적용되도록 설정하였습니다.
테스트넷 릴리즈 이후 메인넷 하드포크는 6월 중순 경으로 예정하고 있으며, 하드포크 이후 그랜드스테이킹 종료, 그리고 원더스테이킹 개시가 거버넌스 의결을 통해 순차적으로 적용됩니다.
