New Race to WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP point system

Wemade announced a new “Race to WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP” point system ahead of the 2024 season opener of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.
The “Race to WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP” is a new golf point system for the KLPGA Tour introduced last year by Wemade in collaboration with SBS Golf. It awards points based on the performance of the participating players in the tournaments. At the end of the season, prize money is distributed according to the accumulated points ranking. Notably, the top 24 players also earn the right to participate in the “WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP” Tournament.
The 2023 season combined “WEMADE Major Points” awarded to players ranking from 1st to 10th place in each tournament, “Stroke Points” for the performances in the final round of the main event, and “Additional Points” for consecutive Top 10 entries or penalties during cut-offs.
Wemade revised the WEMIX point system to simplify it, focusing on selecting players who consistently performed well throughout the season.
This season, the tournament winner will receive 500 points, with points distributed differentially to the runner-ups according to a distribution table. For major tournaments, 120% of points are awarded. The Top 10 players receive additional “KLPGA Wemade Award Points.” All players who make it to the main event will be given “Ranking Points” based on their final position, simplifying the previously complex Stroke and Additional Points system.
The new system will be applied to start with the season opener, the “Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open” on the 7th of this month.
Meanwhile, Wemade released a Lite paper in November last year, introducing various records from the WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP 2023. The WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 was the world’s first golf tournament based on blockchain technology. It offered a new experience by incorporating NFT technology into various aspects of the tournament, such as prize money, admission tickets, food and beverage services, and gallery prizes, attracting over 10,000 visitors to the event.

㈜위메이드(대표 장현국)가 한국여자프로골프(KLPGA) 투어 2024시즌 개막을 앞두고, 새로운 ‘레이스 투 위믹스 챔피언십(Race to WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP)’ 포인트 제도를 발표했다.
‘레이스 투 위믹스 챔피언십’은 지난해 위메이드가 SBS골프와 함께 선보인 KLPGA 투어의 새로운 골프 포인트 시스템이다. KLPGA투어 참가 선수들이 대회에서 기록하는 성적을 기반으로 포인트를 지급하고, 시즌 종료 후 누적 포인트 순위에 따라 상금을 지급한다. 특히 상위 24명은 왕중왕전 ‘위믹스 챔피언십’ 대회 참가 자격도 받는다.
지난 2023시즌은 ▲각 대회 최종 1위부터 10위까지 선수에게 부여하는 ‘대상 배점’ ▲본선 최종 라운드 ‘타수 배점’ ▲연속 Top10 진입 또는 컷오프 시 보너스와 페널티를 주는 ‘추가 배점‘을 합산하는 방식으로 진행했다.
위메이드는 위믹스 포인트 시스템을 단순 명료화하고, 한 시즌 동안 꾸준히 활약한 선수들을 잘 선별하는 것에 중점을 두고 제도를 개편했다.
올 시즌에는 각 대회 우승자에게 500포인트, 2위 이하선수들에게 분배표에 따라 차등으로 포인트가 지급된다. 메이저 대회의 경우 120%의 포인트가 주어진다. Top10 선수들은 ‘KLPGA 위메이드 대상 포인트’ 배점을 추가로 받는다. 본선 진출 선수 전원에게 최종 성적에 따른 ‘순위 배점’을 부여하고, 다소 복잡했던 타수 및 추가 배점을 덜어낸 것이 변경 사항의 핵심이다.
새로운 방식은 이달 7일(목) 열리는 시즌 개막전 ‘하나금융그룹 싱가포르 여자 오픈’부터 적용될 예정이다.
한편, 위메이드는 지난해 11월 개최한 ‘위믹스 챔피언십 2023’의 다양한 기록들을 소개하는 라이트 페이퍼(Lite paper)를 공개했다. ‘위믹스 챔피언십 2023’은 블록체인 기술을 기반으로 펼쳐진 세계 최초 골프 대회다. 대회 상금과 입장권, 식음료 이용, 갤러리 경품 등 대회 곳곳에 NFT 기술을 접목해 새로운 경험을 선사했으며, 1만 명이 넘는 갤러리들이 대회장을 찾는 등 성황리에 마무리됐다.
