Wepublic integrated for the Seoul Gangnam Presbyterian Church elections

Wepublic, a transparently operated community platform by Wemade Co., Ltd., will be introduced in the elections of The Presbyterian Church of Korea (General Assembly) Seoul Gangnam Presbytery, an organization composed of churches in Seoul’s Gangnam area as well as in parts of Gyeonggi province like Yongin and Bundang.
The Seoul Gangnam Presbytery will use the Wepublic voting system to elect pastoral and elder delegates at the 74th regular meeting on April 9th. Only attendees who verify their presence using the SBT (Soul Bound Token) issued by Wepublic will receive the right to vote. Users can check the election results through Wepublic after voting concludes.
The Wepublic voting is based on a Proof of Results protocol, where the proposal, voting progress, and final results are transparently recorded on the blockchain, ensuring ▲secret ballots ▲tamper-proof ▲permanent result preservation, among others. This increases user trust and provides opportunities for active participation in decision-making, with the election process and results being immediately accessible.
In March, Handong University became the first domestic university to successfully conclude 12 elections, including those for the student council and autonomous committees, by using the Wepublic blockchain voting system. This blockchain voting system addresses the drawbacks of low security and inadequate identity verification found in existing electronic voting systems, eliciting positive student responses.
The Seoul Gangnam Presbytery anticipates that adopting Wepublic will lead to a more agile decision-making process and rebuild trust within the Presbytery. Furthermore, after this election, other regional presbyteries within The Presbyterian Church of Korea (General Assembly) are expected to explore the implementation of the Wepublic blockchain voting system.

서울강남노회는 4월 9일(화) 열리는 제74회 정기노회의 목사 및 장로 대표자인 총대 선출 선거에 위퍼블릭 투표 시스템을 활용한다. 현장 참여자에 한해 위퍼블릭에서 발급받은 SBT(Soul Bound Token)로 출석 확인 후, 투표권을 받을 수 있다. 투표 종료 시 이용자는 위퍼블릭을 통해 선거 결과를 확인할 수 있다.

서울강남노회도 위퍼블릭을 통해 노회 내에 더욱 유연한 의사결정 체계가 자리잡고 신뢰 회복 기반이 마련되기를 기대하고 있다. 더불어, 이번 선거 이후 대한예수교장로회(통합)의 타 지역 노회에서도 위퍼블릭 블록체인 투표 시스템 도입을 검토할 예정이다.
