The week started on the 23rd of February with our first course on responsible tourism. On the 25th courses on group travel and itineraries were also made available to the participants. Finally on the 27th, we received courses on resource planning and partnerships. They were all very insightful, educating and helped to prepare everyone for the physical meetings during the weekend.

On the 29th of February 2020, we were extremely overjoyed to have Mr. Pelu Awofeso join us as a facilitator on responsible tourism. Mr. Pelu is an accomplished travel writer, a tour guide, an author with four books going on five, and an environmental sustainability advocate. He has also won some highly revered awards such as the Best travel journalist at the Nigeria Travel week and CNN/Multichoice African Journalists Awards. He has also contributed to a plethora of publications. With this long trail of achievements, it was truly an honor to have him take on this course for our students.

With the climate change concerns (global warming etc) and its impact on the environment, it is obvious that every human would need to make lifestyle adjustments in order to stall and maybe steer in another direction, the fate of the earth. This of course, cuts across all industries and sectors. Tourism happens to be one of those. Responsible tourism tries to incorporate this concerns whilst delivering top notch services to the customers. This involves a lot of work, planning and expertise. Mr Pelu was on board to give this information to our participants and this short paragraph is only a tip of the iceberg. No pun intended.

We were also elated to have Mr. Adedamola Idowu, the manager of Irinajo travel and tours. He was on board to facilitate on group planning and itineraries. Obviously, the whole point of tourism is to see and experience different places and people. While this may seem as an easy thing to curate, it requires knowledge of the lay of the land and a great many others. A successful tour operator must tailor this this properly to attract and please their customers. As someone who is well traveled and has carved a niche for himself in the tourism sector, Mr. Idowu is more that qualified to do justice to this topic and justice he did.

Once again, the second week of the tourism technology boot camp #ttbLagos was a success and we have our facilitators and participants to thank. We look forward to replicating it next week.
