“Give me $10,000 or your personal data will be published online tomorrow morning.”

My computer was locked with only this message shown on screen. There was a line below showing the info for transfering money.

“Should I do it?” I asked myself. “What if they still publish it after I transfer the money?” All my life would be ruined: my career, my marriage, my family…EVERYTHING.

There were mails that I sold some of the business secrets to a competitor company. There were texts that I sent to Peter, my soulmate. Ben has been cheating on me for a long time. We both knew that. Just didn’t want to break up for the sake of our son and daughter, and of course his mother. An annoying woman who would like to separate us when we got married but now threaten us that she would commit suicide if we divorce. The family WILL NOT allow anyone to divorce.

What should I do?

“It must be someone we know!” It is impossible for a stranger to blackmail me. He/she knew my daily routine: when I get up, go to sleep, go to work, pick up children, cook dinner, and go to parties, etc.

Who can she be?

“Are you going to the Wang’s dinner tonight?” asked Ben while tying his tie and walking out from the bedroom. He saw me sitting on the chair staring at my laptop. He came to me. “What is it?”

“Just random breakdown.” I answered. Turning off the monitor, putting on the coat, I said, “Roger has been waiting at the door. Let’s go.”

I would not do it. I would not transfer the money. Let them break. I had been fed up with all these fake things. Tonight would be the last night. The night that I still had my makeup, my mask, and the fake smile that I pretended everything was fine and my life was perfect. Tomorrow would be a new day.
