Dear friends,

I hope you’re doing well. I can’t believe that it’s September already. The next three and a half months are going to be especially interesting for WePower. But before I tell you more about it, let’s take a quick look at what we did in July and August.

  • Platform launch
At the beginning of July, our platform’s alpha version went live and within just 48 hours received thousands of signups globally. With the launch of the alpha version we introduced the first renewable energy auctions that we will be organising in Spain. Despite the fact that the early version of the WePower platform had limited functionality, the feedback about the platform has been extremely positive.
Check it out yourself here: https://platform.wepower.network/ The signup process is smooth — it only takes 3 minutes and using the platform is free for everyone.
  • New strategic partnership in Australia
On July 10th, we announced a new strategic partnership in Australia with Renewable Energy Hub, which belongs to the Tradition group. Tradition is one of the world’s largest interdealer brokers in over-the-counter financial and commodity-related products. Their subsidiary, Tradition Green, is a very active name in the environmental market and they’re adding enormous value to our business development efforts in Australia.
By bringing together renewable energy producers as well as corporate energy buyers, they’ll help us organise the first renewable energy auctions in Australia towards the end of the year. Our partnership news was picked up by Bloomberg Markets. In their feature article, you can find out more about how this partnership fits into the bigger picture and what you can expect from future developments.
  • New partnership in Europe
At the end of July, we announced our partnership with Green Enesys, a renewable energy project developer specialising in large-scale solar power plants. Green Enesys has projects under development all across the world — from Europe, Latin America and Africa, to the MENA region, both on-grid and off-grid.
Not only is Green Enesys planning to list their green energy projects on the WePower platform but they are also proactively involved in the platform development process, making sure that all our features are carefully curated to the needs of our customers.
  • WePower listed on Bitfinex and Ethfinex
At the end of July, we were also listed on Bitfinex and Ethfinex after winning their voting competition. We have already received our first WPR/USD pair. Stay tuned for more exchanges, including WPR pairs with EUR and KRW.
  • Platform development in solid progress
Our CTO, Kaspar, summarised the progress of Wepower platform development in his recent engineering update. In short, the Energy Smart Contracts for Ethereum and EOS are in place and we are now working on auditing these, as well as making preparations for large-scale testing and public release.

What can you expect during the next 3.5 months?

The main goal for this Autumn is the long-awaited business launch. We are focused towards running the first renewable energy auctions in November.

The three most important milestones:

  1. Implement our Estonian tokenisation pilot project with Elering in September, or at the beginning of October at the latest.
Due to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulations in Europe, we have had to take additional safety measures so that we can work with the Estonian energy production/consumption dataset. Even though this caused us a month of delay on the pilot, security of personal data is very important for us though, and we won’t take any risks. Apart from the GDPR issue, everything is going smoothly. To find out more, read the most recent insights from Kaspar.
  2. New partnerships with renewable energy producers, industrial storage facility operators, institutional investors and corporate energy buyers worldwide. Several renewable energy projects are currently going through our due diligence procedure, we are in dialogue with companies about the placement of tokenised wind and storage products on our platform. Corporate energy buyers are also registering for the first auctions.
  3. New whitepaper dedicated to business development in Australia.
This is due to come out in a few weeks. In it, you will learn all about our plans in the local market and the potential for our token holders. It’s hard to put into words how excited I am about the progress we have made in Australia. Stay tuned!

Let’s meet in New York or Vienna

  • September 24–28, Climate Week NYC
    https://www.climateweeknyc.org
I’m thrilled to share that we are going to take part in the Climate Week in New York. On Sept 25th, we are speaking at an event called Solutions for 100% Clean Energy Transition. Climate change is one of the key topics in our agenda and we’re honored to be involved in hosting the flagship event in New York. Let us know if you are around — would be great to meet in person.
  • November 6–8 European, Utility Week in Vienna
    https://www.european-utility-week.com/
European Utility Week is the must-go event for everyone in the energy industry. This year, we’ll be the hosts of Initiate! HUB, the innovation hall where all the cutting-edge startups and Horizon2020 projects have their booths. Moreover, our CEO Nick and CTO Kaspar are going to speak at the conference.

Drop us a note with a short pitch using hashtag #EUW18WePower in WePower social channels, and win a free executive pass to the European Utility Week 😉
