A Recap of 2017 by Alex Martin, Digital Content for WY_CO

The year that everything changed…and the year that changed everything.

A year of taking chances, breaking new ground and never looking in the rearview mirror, only forward. After 7 years of working in the same industry, at the same company, I made 2017 my jump off. My change agent. I wanted to infuse a hefty dose of creativity and artistic vision into my career, and turn my day-to-day routine on its head.

An opportunity to tell the story of a young and feisty new startup, travel the world, meet new faces and places and lay the creative groundwork we now walk (stomp…run…dance) upon, challenge accepted. Camera in carry-on, I was armed and ready for the task at hand and the year ahead working for WYCO. Joining a team of unapologetic risk-takers with grand plans, I landed in Bogotá, Colombia for my first day of work in early 2017. 10 months later, I am writing this recap from a cafe here in Bali, Indonesia, after living and working in over 12 countries (and counting) with the WYCO team.

I spent the past year capturing, creating, producing, editing and curating content to market our company, our mission, our clients and our new-wave lifestyle to the rest of the world. WYCO uncovered a community of people who want to live and work differently, and turn their compasses elsewhere. I found my tribe in them. I see the world and experience life through snapshots and vignettes, finely tinted color schemes, light leaks, focus changes and visually compelling ‘frames per second’. As a creative storyteller for WYCO, I’m going to break down 2017 the best way I know how — through the photos and images that made this year my favorite (so far…). 2018 has some big shoes to fill, and they better have thick soles for all the ground we’re about to cover!
