Burnley’s season has been quite the surprise for many as the Clarets have thus far found a way to avoid the relegation line as they currently sit in position 12 on the Premier League table. With a few more downs than ups, the newly promoted side has found ways to earn tough points. Rather it be a grind out game, a draw, or a win with ease Burnley have found a way to do it all this season.

Best Player: Michael Keane

Michael Keane has been top notch for Burnley and their success this season. When compared to the two center backs at the top of the league table, Chelsea’s David Luiz and Gary Cahill, Michael Keane leads in minutes, interceptions, clearances, and blocks. Keane is crucial to the Burnley defense and if they were to lose him it would be crucial to their season.

Most Surprising Player: Ben Mee

Ben Mee was a solid player for Burnley in the Championship last season and is surely well known amongst Claret fans. Considering Mee’s season last year you may be hard-pressed to see why he is the most surprising Claret player this year? The reason is because Mee has been even better this season in the top league of English football. He is right on par with the likes of Azpilicueta in any statistical category and has been crucial to the team’s defense. His performances are pivotal to Burnley’s ability to maintain in the Premier League.

Best Result:

A 2–0 win at Turf Moor against current second-place Liverpool has to be seen as the win of the season. It was only the second game of the season and the Clarets were able to secure their biggest three points to date. With goal scorers Andre Gray and Sam Vokes putting Burnley well on their way to a season of survival.

Player to be Replaced: Steven Defour

I know people will question replacing Steven Defour but it is justified. The reasoning behind replacing him is that Claret manager, Sean Dyche, simply doesn’t know what to do with the talented midfielder. When Defour has played he has seemingly been excellent for the team managing three assists, one goal, 13 key passes, and 16 chances created. Defour is a creative player who does just that, create. Personally, I would like to see Defour get more consistent playing time but if not then the Clarets manager needs to figure what exactly he wants in midfield as the season continues.

Predicted Finish: 13th

If the first half of the season was tough for the Clarets then we should expect the second half of the season to be every bit as tough and equal. I expect them to both struggle and surprise us a few times. One thing that is worrying for Burnley is that they have a stretch of away games, four to be exact, which on the other side of that stretch they meet Tottenham at home. This could be their toughest five games of the season and they will need to find a way to get six to eight points from it, which will be difficult. The one surprise game to look forward to is a possible away tie or win at Arsenal. I feel position 13 is a reasonable spot for Burnley to finish the season as they maintain themselves in the Premier League.
