What is “Westheights Refugee Sponsorship”

You may not realize it, but you have the opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself. You have the power to save a life, to rescue a child, to bring hope, safety, and security to a family who has experienced unspeakable trauma.

As Syria staggers in its brutal civil war, much of the country’s population has been displaced and is homeless, with little hope of returning to Syria safely. Half of those uprooted are children who have been traumatized by war, robbed of an education, forced from their homes and now live in appalling conditions in exile.

Like others around the world, we have watched as the conflict and resulting refugee crisis has escalated in Syria, and we want to help.

Our team believes that we can and should do our part to respond to this humanitarian crisis.

We have therefore come together to sponsor a Syrian refugee family to come to Kitchener. Together, with your help, we can make a difference and drastically change the lives of people who have lost everything. We can give children the chance to know the safety and opportunity we so often take for granted in Canada.

The refugee family we sponsor will have many needs including food, housing, clothing and transportation for their first 12 months in Canada. We invite you to contribute as we work to raise funds so necessary for this endeavor. Your financial support will go directly to meeting the needs of a Syrian family as they settle into their new life in Canada.

Donations of at least $25 will be eligible for a tax receipt, which will be sent by email in February of the following year.

You can take great satisfaction in knowing that you have contributed to directly changing the lives of a specific family and helping them rebuild the lives that have been taken from them.

Our online donations page will launch on Sunday, December 6th at 12 noon EST. [UPDATE: The donations page is now here!]
