Editor’s Note- A Call for Consciousness

Emily Davidson, Abigail Beach, Sawyer Young

“All that is made seems planless to the darkened mind, because there are more plans than it looked for.”
C.S. Lewis, Perelandra

Scenarios wherein the global community engages in trivial arguments and focuses on personal plight have encouraged the world to become one of contention. Although there are numerous problems facing individuals today, there are still age-old issues that have been disregarded for decades. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund estimates that some 25,000 children die every day due to preventable conditions. The Center for Biological Diversity reports that instead of the standard five species going extinct per year, the Earth is now losing 12 a day due to human activity. In addition, Oxfam International states that eight men have the same amount of wealth as the poorest half of humanity.

While no one’s struggles or opinions should be minimized, everyone should have the insight to open their eyes and face injustices that occur around the world. In a turbulent world, many important matters of social justice and security go unnoticed. The articles published in this edition of the Westminster Journal for Global Progress attempt to highlight issues that affect the global community at large, and call our attention to the importance of unity.
