If you ask me how social media is changing news in today’s world, I’ll tell you that it is shaping it. This is almost the only source of news about the industry right now.

Thank your stars that you don’t know how news editors write their articles for music websites. You would be horrified by how many artists’ accounts they need to check day and night — it’s thousands of musicians on different platforms with dozens of stories and posts.

Every day, almost every music publication releases tens of articles based on what some stars have written, said, or shown on their social media pages. The same goes for every tour and release announcement — they all come from there. Nowadays, no one sends press releases.

We also have comments sections and DMs that impact almost every musician, which is currently a significant topic in its own right. This phenomenon of a small coterie of fans influencing bona fide stars also produces a huge amount of stories.

All in all, social media could survive without music magazines, but it doesn’t work in reverse.
