This week I’ve been booking in zoom and telephone calls with our local over-65s audience for our user research, led by Storythings. After putting out a notice on our Facebook, and organisations we are in contact with getting in touch with their beneficiaries, we had a great response to the initial research work being carried out by Storythings.

I was slightly concerned about not recruiting enough volunteers for this, but the turn out was more than we needed and thankfully as we require bigger numbers for the next stage of testing, we can involve more people. It was amazing how much reach and response we had from over-65s online, initially from just using our comms channels and then from kind colleagues at other local organisations spreading the word. It was also great to see how much interest there was in the community for people to volunteer their time and be part of this project, and for people to have their say in our work.

Storythings’s research lead ran 15 interviews over Thursday and Friday, which we’ll be hearing about next week. Despite some minor tech problems and a few users unable to get onto the call, there were 15 successful research calls, so they made a great milestone achievement in gathering lots of insightful data.

I’m also looking at the different content we could draw on for the prototypes. I’ve been thinking about whether the prototypes should be based around the new public artwork being installed for Englands Creative Coast as ultimately we’d like to link this engagement work back to ECC, but whether that is during Development or afterwards is the question. There are other artworks and exhibitions we can draw from, such as the public artworks outside in Margate e.g. Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Time’, and Storythings are rightly keen to reuse pre-existing content for the prototyping where possible.

Next week we’ll be delving into the research insights.
