WeTrack Event Guide — September 2018
The summer holidays are ending but the great events keep coming… Let’s take a look at what is in store for us to enjoy this month.
September kicks off with the weekend of the Faversham Hop Festival and concludes with the biennial classic — The Ryder Cup, set in Paris this time around. Our other featured event smacks of novelty, tradition and Britishness — the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, in Manchester!
Elsewhere, there are World Championships in Modern Pentathlon, Climbing, Rowing, Judo and Road Cycling.

Faversham Hop Festival
Saturday 1st-Sunday 2nd September
This weekend street festival encapsulates the heart of the town, combining the flavours of beer, dance, music and food. Over 60 bands perform across 5 stages in the medieval haven of Faversham, traditionally associated with the hop harvest.
The crowning feature of the event is the Hop Blessing and traditional parade. There are special tours of Shepherd Neame, Britain’s oldest brewer.
Faversham certainly owns the historical right to host such a festival: the first evidence of hops in Faversham dates to the year 900, and the town was drinking beer from at least 1394!

World Black Pudding Throwing Championships
Sunday 9th September
This annual event from Ramsbottom, Lancashire, is fairly self-explanatory. Contestants each under-arm hurl 3 Black Puddings at a pile of a dozen Yorkshire Puddings stacked on a 20-foot high plinth.
The tradition has been alleged to result from a War of the Roses battle of 1455 where ammunition stores were fully depleted, and soldiers instead lobbed Black and Yorkshire puddings respectively.
Because reading about it is simply not enough, here is some footage from the 2017 Championships:

Ryder Cup, 2018
Friday 28th-Sunday 30th September
In 2018 this shining light of the golf calendar visits Paris, where the twelve selected golfers from the United States of America and from Europe compete in a mixture of foursomes, fourballs and singles.
The event at Le Golf National is only the second time the Ryder Cup has been hosted in continental Europe in its 91-year history. The United States are defending champions after their 2016 triumph at Hazeltine but Europe have not lost at home since 1993.
Originally just Great Britain & Ireland competed against the United States, before the rest of Europe were incorporated into the team from 1979.
This rare opportunity for golf to be tribal and aggressive lends it immense popularity, and we certainly can’t wait for the rivalry to recommence!
