Andrey performing with his band
Looking professional?

Andrey Podoprygor is the lead electric guitarist in a rock band, he enjoys his morning coffee with a cigarette, and his favorite color is black. He states his family is the reason he gets up in the morning. He plans to major in Business Administration and Fine arts. Under the tough exterior he projects, Andrey has a devoted, yet restless heart, anxious to experience the world.

Upon first glance, his smart attire, his charisma, and his nonchalance make a striking impression. He has a magnetic personality and unique look, but he takes care that his confidence does not cross the line into condescension. Andrey rarely talks about his personal life in casual conversation and he usually measures out his words precisely; when presented with the opportunity to give an interview, he became more genuine, more open, and his complex personality started unfolding.

Born and raised in Ukraine, Andrey chose to study in Bulgaria, because he has AUBG alumni in the family. He says he’s pleased with the quality of life and the relationships he’s made within the community so far. Despite being introverted in the past; Andrey claims his perspectives have changed: “I enjoy my time more when I spend it with pleasant new people. I can’t just stay in my room, because I quickly start to feel bored.” He says he’s grown out of his social anxiety and generally does like to waste his time feeling embarrassed or ashamed.

Andrey had previously shared that part of the reason he left Ukraine was the two-year mandatory military service for men. He felt more inclined to study than to fight. He left his family behind and arrived here by himself. Even though his family life is complicated and features many siblings and even more arguments, he struggles because of their absence.

When asked to describe a vivid memory, he chose one about fishing with his grandpa at a very young age. He says those short fading memories are the only thing connecting him to his grandfather and are worth holding on to.

His undying love and devotion to his family are evident in his career aspirations as well. Andrey hopes to devote his life to music. It is something he says he cannot live without: “It’s helped me pull through a lot of tough moments,” adding, “Music is an important part of our lives and I think we should pay more attention to it.” But Andrey is by no means naïve. He knows how difficult navigating the music industry can be, especially for a young artist.

This young man hopes to someday help hopefuls like himself on their way to glory. He dreams of owning his own recording studio and sharing his riches with a large, close-knit family.

Andrey says he is improving his work ethic every day. He struggles with procrastination but tends to deliver quality solutions to his tasks. He is aware of the stakes in today’s uncertain world, which motivates him to keep developing his skills and adapting his personality.
