Gangwon Provincial Government to Host ‘Korea Carbon Forum 2018’ with W-Foundation

• W-Foundation co-organises Korea Carbon Forum 2018 with government ministries and agencies

Seoul, South Korea, Oct 1 2018 — The Korea Carbon Forum 2018, happening from 10th to 12th October, is hosted by Gangwon Province and Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea and proudly co-organized by W-Foundation as part of its HOOXI Campaign, a nation-wide public movement to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission.

W Green Pay (WGP) is the first global blockchain that rewards individual’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction efforts. The HOOXI campaign, led by W-Foundation, is a GHG reduction campaign supported by major public and private organizations and high profile celebrities. The WGP token aims to reward HOOXI app users for their GHG reduction efforts.

With the theme of the forum being “Implementation of the Paris Agreement Using the Future New Technology”, Youree Lee, CEO of W Green Pay, will be on the VIP Panel along with other esteemed guests such as Yoo Yeon Chul, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador for Climate Change, Enele Sopoaga, Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Laurence Smith, Professor at UCLA Department of Geography, Yoo Young Sook, Representative of Climate Change Center, and more. The co-organizers of the forum include industry giants such as Korea Research Institute on Climate Change, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, International Emissions Trading Association and National Strategy Project Group for Carbonization. The forum is sponsored by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy, Ministry of Environment, Korea Forest Service, Korea Exchange, Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), KT, CJ Hello, and many more.

Aligned with the forum’s agenda to encourage implementation of a Low Carbon Society, efficient countermeasures to climate change such as incentivising the general public to participate in greenhouse gas reduction efforts, will be discussed. Lee will also share how WGP contributes to GHG reduction. For instance, upon completion of a mission in the HOOXI app, users will be awarded mission points which can be exchanged to WGP tokens. Besides its utility as a payment currency at participating online retail stores such as iTunes and Amazon through its Zeex partnership with WGP, these WGP tokens can also be used in a variety of ways.

During the forum, participants can expect to be entertained by a special performance by INFINITE — a Korean idol group which is also the HOOXI Campaign Ambassador.
