Strengthening the W Green Pay (WGP) blockchain through a strategic partnership with ICON
ICON partners with W-Foundation on WGP, a blockchain-based global GHG reduction reward system
Notice (September 28, 2018): W Green Pay has been changed to a token that complies with the ERC20 standard running on the Ether Network.
ICON agreed to collaborate as a strategic technology partner for W-Foundation’s HOOXI campaign, a global campaign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Through the strategic partnership, the two organizations will collaborate on the WGP blockchain, which rewards individuals for their greenhouse gas reduction efforts. ICON will further contribute to the wider adoption of GHG reduction activities by providing linkages to other blockchain communities.
Kim Jong-hyuk, ICON council member, said, "This agreement has great significance as an example of how blockchain technology can be applied not only in business but also in nonprofit areas such as global conservation campaigns."

W Green Pay (WGP) is the world’s first blockchain-based reward system that rewards individuals for their efforts to reduce GHG emissions. WGP holders will be able use to it as a means of payment in their daily lives. The WGP rewards for individual GHG emission reduction efforts will be distributed by W-Foundation's HOOXI app, which will be launched later this fall. W-Foundation has also established strategic partnerships with Stellar Lightyear.io, Kona I, Dae Hyun Accounting Corporation, and Zeex. HOOXI campaign’s partners are helping to expand the use of WGP in everyday life.
The W-Foundation is an international environmental conservation organization that partners with government agencies, corporations, and organizations to protect the environment and has been carrying out nature conservation and climate relief projects since 2012. The Global GHG Reduction Campaign was launched at the National Assembly in December, 2017, followed by an announcement ceremony at the National Assembly in April of this year for the formation of the Committee for The Global GHG Reduction Campaign.
