Deconomy Forum (Distributed Economy Forum), a global blockchain industry conference showcasing developments and updates from key industry proponents as well as forecasts on the future of the blockchain industry and digital assets, successfully concluded on April 5th after two days of intense and at times contentious discussions. W-Foundation participated in Deconomy as the event’s Official Partner.

W-Foundation is focused on driving the use of blockchain technology for social good and social impact. During the forum, W-Foundation showcased its project, W Green Pay (WGP), which is a widely cited use case for leveraging blockchain technology for social impact. WGP, a blockchain token, is the native reward system for public participants in W-Foundation’s HOOXI campaign. HOOXI campaign is a global nature conservation campaign led by the W-Foundation, in which users of the HOOXI app are rewarded with WGP for performing greenhouse gas emission reduction missions (HOOXI app is currently available for downloading on both Google Play and App Store).

On the first day of the two-day event, Youree Lee, the CEO of W-Foundation, moderated the panel titled ‘Survival of Crypto Funds and Their Market Predictions’. The panel, which was joined by Jason Fang of Sora Ventures, Remington Ong of Fenbushi Capital and Jehan Chu of Kenetic Capital, highlighted the roles and perspectives of crypto-focused investment institutions in the current market environment. W-Foundation also hosted Deconomy’s two official VIP networking parties held in the evening of both the 4th and the 5th, in addition to hosting the Deconomy Official After Party that was held late into the night on the 5th.

A diverse group of industry proponents gathered for the forum and participated in heated discussions, speeches and announcements made over the two-day period, with the 1st day focusing on Money and the 2nd day on Technology. Noted global crypto luminaries such as Andreas Antonopoulos, the coder, entrepreneur and author of ‘Mastering Bitcoin’, Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, Nouriel Roubini, an economist, professor at NYU Stern and noted crypto-skeptic, joined the forum to discuss the future of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

Other headlining participants were Joseph Lubin, the co-founder at Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, Phil Zimmermann, the creator of PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), Jochen M. Schimittmann, the Head of IMF’s Singapore Representative Office, Francisco Rivadeneyra, a Senior Research Advisor at Bank of Canada, Emin Gun Sirer, a professor at Cornell University, Jeffrey Tucker, a renowned economist of the Austrian School, and more.

The panel ‘Blockchain Industry and Political Landscape’, which was one of the most anticipated of the forum and held on the 4th, was joined by Byung-doo Min, Chairman of Korea’s National Policy Committee, Byoung-gug Choung, Chairman of the Special Committee on the 4th Industrial Revolution of the National Assembly, Hee Kyoung Song, Co-chair at Industry 4.0 Forum of the National Assembly, and Hee-ryong Won, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The bipartisan group of lawmakers and administrators on the panel, which was moderated by Ash Han, the founder of Actwo Technologies and organizer of Deconomy, engaged in a constructive debate on the topic of Korean government’s policies and regulations on the blockchain industry and cryptocurrencies. The global press widely reported that one of the participants, Representative Hee Kyoung Song, introduced a bill in the Korean National Assembly in the very next day on the 5th, with the stated objective of providing a comprehensive government policy support for the blockchain industry.

Youree Lee, the CEO of W-Foundation, commented that “by bringing together global leaders in the blockchain industry, global finance and economics, Deconomy positioned itself as the premier global forum for the entire industry,” and further emphasized that “W-Foundation was delighted to contribute as the official partner of Deconomy, an event which irrefutably positioned Korea as one of the centers of the global blockchain industry.” Adding to this, Ash Han, the founder of Actwo Technologies and organizer of Deconomy, said that he was “excited to organize a forum that facilitated the gathering of global leaders across multiple disciplines impacted by blockchain technology,” and that he was “confident that “Deconomy raised the profile of the Korean blockchain industry on the global stage, while also raising the awareness of Korean government policy makers and domestic industry players on the latest examples of thought leadership and innovation in the global blockchain industry.”
