W-Foundation Cooperates with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on Sustainable Development Goals
W-Foundation will cooperate with UNFCCC’s Climate Neutral Now initiative to promote sustainability and climate action through the HOOXI mobile app, which will launch on Dec 5th. W-Foundation will promote Climate Neutral Now among its users by placing a link on the HOOXI app to Climate Neutral Now and by inviting the HOOXI app users to support the initiative. W-Foundation will receive donations from the HOOXI app users and purchase UN certified emission reduction units (CERs) from the UN carbon offsetting platform. Niclas Svenningsen, Manager of Global Climate Action at UNFCCC commented that, “we are excited to cooperate with W-Foundation to promote climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our global communities.” Youree Lee, CEO of W-Foundation, added that “providing a globally networked platform that enables a broad-based public participation in global climate actions is a key focus for us, and we love the opportunity to introduce our app users to the important work done under the auspices of the UN.”
HOOXI app is currently signing up early bird users through the advance registration site (hooxi.co.kr). As a first step to moving this cooperative initiative forward, W-Foundation will make a donation equivalent to 1 ton of carbon for each early bird registrant who signs up through the advance registration site.
Climate Neutral Now is an initiative launched by the UN Climate Change in 2015 to encourage and support all levels of society to take action to achieve a climate neutral world as enshrined in the Paris Agreement adopted the same year. It makes it easy for individuals and organizations to make a difference for a carbon neutral future. In addition to reducing their own greenhouse gas emissions, individuals and organizations can buy UN certified emission reduction units (CERs), which are generated by climate-friendly projects vetted by UNFCCC. By buying CERs, individuals and organizations can support these projects and help bring sustainable benefits to global communities, such as improved air and water quality, reduced energy consumption and more.
HOOXI mobile app is a gamified mobile social network application that encourages the public to perform and share results of greenhouse gas emissions reduction missions that are defined and recommended by the HOOXI app. Completion of the missions generate mission points, which are used to competitively rank the users on a monthly basis. As an incentive to encourage enthusiastic participation and voluntary generation of useful greenhouse gas emissions reduction data, the top 20% will be rewarded each month with WGP (W Green Pay) tokens on the blockchain. HOOXI missions are defined in a way as to make it easy for diverse members of the public to participate, with a smaller subset of the missions specifically designed to generate time series data that can over time contribute to a rigorous quantitative accounting of the public’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions reduction through the HOOXI app.

With 197 Parties, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has near universal membership and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement. The main aim of the Paris Agreement is to keep a global average temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
