Spring is in the air! As the weather starts to change and flowers begin to bloom, it’s not only a good time to clean your house; it’s also a great time to reduce the risk of identity theft by tidying up your digital life!

Below are some helpful tips and resources to help you get started with your digital spring cleaning.

  • Unsubscribe from newsletters and email alerts you no longer read.
  • Uninstall software and apps you no longer use.
  • If you have plug-ins installed on your browser, take a look at the permission settings and make sure they’re set correctly. If you’re not using particular plug-ins anymore, remove them.
  • Securely dispose of all old and unnecessary data and devices.
  • Clean up your social media by removing old or unnecessary photos and posts. If you’re no longer using certain social media accounts, delete them.
  • Review the privacy and security settings on accounts you use.
  • Update your software. Having the most up to date software, operating systems, and web browsers will help protect your data.
  • Review your account passwords and make sure you’re using lengthy and unique passphrases that are safely stored.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication on accounts that offer it.
