Gary Chalik WG20 introduces Cecilia Lulli of Relay Investments and Charles Field WG06 of SFM.

Relay Investments is a global firm that exclusively invests in search fund entrepreneurs and the companies they acquire. Relay’s founders both led successful searches and have decades of search fund investing experience. This past week, Relay Investments joined Wharton ETA for an on-campus event.

One of their operators is a Wharton grad who was gracious enough to travel from Massachusetts to be with us. Charles Field WG06 is the CEO of School Family Media (SFM), the leading media, data information, and marketing services provider at the intersection of schools and families, based in Wrentham, MA. Prior to SFM, Charles was the co-founder and managing partner of the search fund Sunlight Capital Group, LLC and acquired SFM with his co-founder (and fellow Wharton grad, Brian Cabezud WG06) in September 2018. Charles holds an MBA in Marketing from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College.

Charles shared many great insights from his and Brian’s experience raising capital, searching, acquiring, and operating a company. Here’s one takeaway:

I was looking for someone with a differentiated skillset in finance and tech from my own background in sales and marketing. This has resulted in better business decisions, and investors place a great deal of importance on this at the outset.

The Wharton ETA Club wants to again express its gratitude to Relay Investments and Charles for the great event.
