THE TRADITIONAL FISH MARKET {P.C- me}

While doing my research for the things for look for in a fish market, almost everybody said “It should be clean, no flies or bad smell”.

Wao, be practical! Because it is India, and flies and foul smell are the honor of our fish markets, you should probably not eat fish.

(he he he, like me!)

But on a serious note, hygiene and cleanliness has never been a prior factor in our fish markets, maybe because our socio-economic factor of our fish sellers that does not allow us to afford that level of cleanliness.

But now, at least in Bhubaneswar, it is a possibility with the new (showrooms of fish) fish shops.

Chilika fresh

Fishfed, a government aided organization and Falcon Marine Exports Pvt. Ltd a fish business company have come up with hygienic fish shops- Chilika Fresh and Fish on wheels.

The FISHFED is an apex body of all Primary Fishermen Cooperative Societies in the State, which looks for the socio-economic interest, as well as welfare of the poor fishermen of the State.

Fish on wheels {P.C- mycitylinks}

Fishfed has opened two such outlets in the city — Siripur Square and CRP Square — which sell fresh fish, shrimp, crab and prawn at reasonable prices to the fish lovers. Many more stores are to come up in various places of the city and in various other locations in Odisha.

However, still there is a notion that these “malls” will have stale products, and the unhygienic markets will have fresh products, as all of there fishes get sold everyday.

Well, that’s a notion, and there are always exceptions. At the end of the day, those who buy fish have to be cautious of what they are buying.
