What I do at CMU

First of all, I am so happy with how the final presentations turned out for everyone. Everyone did such a great job presenting their work in a nutshell. My team made several revisions to our presentation and it was so refreshing to arrive at the version that we presented at the end. We went from trying to explain 3–4 different complex frameworks to a couple of simplified frameworks. We also combined a lot of our ideas into a few slides, so it was like hitting 2+ birds with one stone. We had a bit of a scramble right up until the minutes before the presentation began. This was due to some last minute stylistic changes and video refinements. But I feel like we pulled it off.

Trying to consolidate a semester’s worth of work into one presentation is quite the task, but I feel like I have learned a lot from it. It takes perceptive people to think of the audience and what elements they need to understand in order to make sense of the project on a micro and macro level. Because we have been so involved in the project, it is difficult for us to step out of our “expert” zone and be empathetic towards those who are in the “first timer” zone.
