This is a depressed generation.

Why would I say that? Simply because the overall quality of life gets so much better. Worrying about survival biomes, good-old stories.

Of course, there are still people impoverished and in the lower class. What I propose here, without discriminating against them, may apply to the next generation as well, after the parent generation works so hard to get to the middle-class, better lifestyle. And this is where depression happens.

Why would I say that? First, there are no more urgent needs to make some cash to barely survive. Let us be honest here. For those who apply, whether you work or do not work does not give you life or death — you are not relied on how much money you make, as your parents can cover you up at the end of the day.

To all the international students who study abroad, think about the money your parents paid for you. You know that is a large sum of money, but you do not understand how much it is, and you could never understand it. Maybe you will when, touch wood, one day, your life goes back to how broke and tough life once was for your parents. Then you knew.

To all the international students who study abroad, think about the money your parents paid for you.

For now, therefore, the meaning of life comes before the urge for survival. Thanks to hardworking parents, you do not need to worry about money. This, however, leaves you space and time to think about shit like what am I supposed to do now that I do not have to work for my living? What is the meaning of life? Why am I here living? — all these questions open a new chapter of depression for vulnerable middle-class kids and sons and daughters. They would struggle to find a reason for living, even if they do what their parents told them — get a day job and work hard like them.

However, since they are in the middle class already, and the colossal barrier separating the middle class and upper class, they, without any fulfilment or directions of social movement, would quickly see themselves on the treadmill as the hamsters in their mind.
