Halloween Competition for What Is Love To You?
A Soulful Love Poem to My Crush
Something is hidden beneath the surface.
Boughs of sword-like flowers
Cut into our view
Of what may or may not be true.
Some say the paranormal lives
Within these huddling oak trees.
They shade the land
Like a gateway to a dark manor.
My mind is a shaded hallway in a stranger’s house,
Full of traps and mysteries.
But if you succeed in getting through the maze,
I’ll reward you with sweets and other surprises.
Under the wire mesh
Of the dark woods,
Where last year’s jack-o’-lanterns are tossed away,
I feel my foolishness
As well as your lack of awareness.
Both of us are hiding inside the forest.
Ghosts will swim through the branches,
And chase after our shadows.
Spirits carry my memories of you,
And my sentiments are finely filtered,
Like the silky cobwebs
That perch in your doorway.
