Discovering connections through timezones
How a simple picture from home showed me the meaning of love while living abroad
I recently moved abroad from my friends and family to a faraway country to pursue an old dream of mine. I came alone and the journey itself was full of anxiety and fear, but also fun and rewarding.
On one side, I still can not believe I have come this far. On the other side, this journey has taught me so far to look at the world with brand new eyes letting every colour find new meaning.
After a week abroad, living with a 6-hour difference and feeling alone most of the time, I received a picture of my mom having lunch with my boyfriend. After that, they both told me how great lunch was and that they enjoyed each other’s company.
And that simple picture changed everything for me. It meant the world to me. I have never thought I would be so glad and delighted that my family would love the family I chose as much as I do. Nothing, in the entire world, could have been more meaningful than that simple picture at lunch. At that precious moment, I felt loved from afar. After feeling a teardrop, I realized that this is love to me.
