Over the past few months, I practiced a lot in the kitchen. Sometimes I catch myself thinking about how powerful cooking is. I’m not a chef, and like any other beginner, I make mistakes. However, when I get it right, I feel that cooking is one of the most beautiful acts of love that one person can do for another.
Making a dish and then feeling the pleasure of its result is one of the best things a human being can feel. It’s like composing a song and then listening to all its complexity. Like creating a story, which is only possible to understand after its outcome. Like painting a picture and remembering every feeling put in the ink drops. It’s pure magic.
A culinary dish, as simple as it may be, is made up of various flavors that blend, like musical notes, creating a unique sensation. A simple fried egg can be a masterpiece if done with love and soul.
Watching a culinary show like Master Chef, I learned more technical concepts and new recipes. I also got to see how a professional kitchen works. At certain times, I see how much food touches the heart, even of people who have been doing it their whole lives. That makes me fall in love with this art even more.
When starving, I try to improvise. Most of the time, the combination of flavors surprises me. I happily admire my creation and how much cooking can improve our self-esteem.
Food is art, like music, literature, painting, and film. We have food for all tastes, cultures, and climates. Food should be for everyone.
Anyway, I will seek to improve my techniques and expand my knowledge about this magnificent art, complex yet so simple and full of love.
