The Himalayas: Discover The Divine Truth Within

The benefit of pilgrimage and meditation to holy places is not because of their rich history, but for the fact that divine blessing can be experienced when visiting them. Their very soil is impregnated with a higher consciousness”. –Swami Kriyananda

The Himalayas are not only the world’s most extraordinary mountain range, but they are also home to hundreds of peaks which are considered to be holy.

Two well-known religions (Hinduism and Buddhism) and a myriad of local faiths (such as Jainism, Sikhism, and Tibet’s Bon) consider certain Himalayan peaks to be crucial to their beliefs.

The Himalayas themselves are the temple. Prana, or ‘life force energy’, flourishes in the Himalayas. This abundance of life energy is an easily discoverable secret of the Himalayas, felt by merely being in their presence. It has such a pure quality of prana, vibrating at a degree possibly the closest the manifest world can be to that level of the divine.

The energy of the Himalayas has a high and clear vibration which is raw, pure, potent, and contains all the power and force of manifestation and creation. Some say that the universe was born in the Himalayas and that deep within lies the origin of all creation, the door between worlds and the home of the gods.

The Tibetan village of McLeodganj or Little Lhasa as it’s also known nestles in the lush green Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is one of the few places where you can witness the perfect blend of Indian and Tibetan cultures living in harmony with each other.

Mcleodganj is a holy city in Dharamshala, which is famous for the Dalai Lama temple. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, visits this temple two or three times a year to preach and bless.

If you are lucky enough to visit the temple during his visit, you can listen to his preaching and even be blessed by the Dalai Lama himself.

Mcleodganj is a hill town which is perfect for picturesque trekking trails, soothing weather conditions, idyllic landscapes, and vibrant culture.

Like many secrets along the spiritual path, the potency of the Himalayas can only be comprehended through direct experience. There are no words to capture the subtleties and nuances of what you experience in the presence of these mountains, which have the power to whisper to you, even from the other side of the world.

Many spiritual aspirants, particularly yogis, sadhus and swamis come to the Himalayas for sadhana. Sadhana is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘spiritual practice’ or ‘a discipline undertaken with devotion in pursuit of a spiritual goal’.

Bringing this vibe into our lives helps us become more in tune with our own true will, our life’s purpose, and our soul’s blueprint, making our lives calmer and clearer, enabling us to listen to our higher selves and our intuition more.

A trip to the Himalayas is an intense spiritual experience, especially when you take part in deep meditation sessions, yoga, trekking to the tops of the mountains, satsangs, and embrace the spiritual power emanating from age-old sacred temples and monasteries.

I recently stayed in a small Om Yoga Ashram near Dal Lake and just 2km from the Mcleodganj, Dharamsala. The Om Yoga Ashram is surrounded by magnificent natural beauty with rolling green hills, majestic trees, and an adjacent stream. The incredible views over Dal Lake and the Kangra Valley really completed the experience.

The setting offered a peaceful and inspiring place to learn and practice yoga meditation. With the sound of the stream and birds singing, and the sun shining through the leaves allows you to retreat from worldly cares and go deeper into the study and practice of yoga and meditation.

After a full day immersed in all aspects of spiritual yoga, trips to monasteries and temples and trekking over the mountains, I spent the evenings relaxing and enriching with deep meditations.

Such deep spiritual experience as a week in the Himalayas will help you enter onto a path of self-liberation and realization. Imagine bringing away all of the negative images and false beliefs that stop you living the life you’ve always wanted and finding the answers deep inside you.

Before you are too weak or too old, you must meet and merge with the beloved Himalayas.— Sadhguru

September to June is the best time to visit Mcleodganj. Travellers can choose to experience the winter chill from September to March or beat the heat during the summer season from April to June.
