1 Coconut consumption

Counting the number of coconut trees in Kerala would be tough as counting the stars on sky. The consumption of coconuts in Kerala is very high. People in Kerala utilize coconuts for many purpose like Cooking , Hair — body treatment , Coir , Sculptures , Leaf Huts etc. The name ‘Kerala’ is dervied from malayalam words ‘Kera’ and ‘alayalam’. The word ‘Kera’ means Cocount tree and ‘Alayalam’ mean abode. How ever coconut is not the official fruit of Kerala. What an irony , right?

2. Divine art form ‘Theyyam’

Have you ever seen the avatar of god infront of you? Then there is chance to see god with your naked eyes. I am not just joking , this is something very interesting. Theyyam is a very popular ritual art form in Kasaragod and Kannur districts of Kerala. Theyyam is believed as avatars of god. The art form use to be perfomed in temple or any holy location where devotees are gathered. The devotees would be standing or some of them would be sitting on a sacred tree in front of the shrine. Theyyam dance in the floor infront of ‘Palliyara’ according to few instruments mainly called ‘chenda’ . Theyyam is one of the very oldest art form. There are approximately 400 types of Theyyam, including Pallivettakkorumakan and Sree Muthappan Theyyam . To Know more about theyyam you definitely have to visit north malabar in between the month October to May.

3. Costal area and food culture

If you check in to the map of kerala you will realize almost every districts in Kerala has Beaches and rivers. The number of vegetarians in Kerala is one percentage , which shows the influence of costal food style in the state. If you really like to have the verity of fish cusines , you must visit Kerala. ‘Karimeen porichathu’ is my favorite

4. Literature and Movies

As you all know kerala is the most literate state in india , It has impact on Literature and Movies in Kerala. The native language of Kerala — Malayalam has it’s own value in the Literature and Movie Industries . Novels like Randamoozham , Pathummayude aadu , Khasakinte Ithihasam , aadu jeethivam etc will definitely give you a different experience while reading. Which are already translated in multiple languages . The movies in Kerala are called Malayalam movies , Which are very famous for parallel movie making , Malayalam movies has it’s own unique way of film making. Unlike other Industries in India, the industry’s gross box-office is smaller, when compared to larger market driven Indian industries. But quality of making is very appreciable. Movies like Drishyam ,Bangalore days , Premam , Ustad hotel are even very famous in outside Kerala.

5. Six Months monsoon

Ever you wondered , why Kerala is having too much vegetation? Rain is the answer for that. Monsoon is the major season for Kerala , Which starts in the month May and ends in September. In Kerala it is called as ‘ Edavapathy’. The architecture in Kerala is based on the climate , The pyramid roofs helps them to survive from heavy rain fall. Rain has major roll on Kerala’s culture.
