Dazed and Confused

I am confused. Maybe you guys can help. Since the election, intellectual elitists have been ridiculed for being out of touch and not understanding the appeal of a candidate like our now President-elect.

Well, excuse the fuck out of me, for being the first one in my family to get an advanced degree and for having read books (you know, the fucking kind without pictures) since I was child. I am a middle-classed white girl from southern Illinois. Not exactly your typical intellectual elite, but ok. However, in this new paradigm, knowledge and education is apparently no longer valued. At least that is what I feel like I am being told. It is now ok, having been normalized by the acceptance or outright denial in many cases, that our President-elect has openly and repeatedly espoused views which make him a sexist, misogynist, bigoted, xenophobic, narcissistic asshole. Get over it, I am told, for the good of our country. Well, you know what… I am going to continue to be an educated, well-read, empathetic human being who fights for the underprivileged and if that makes me an one of the intellectual elite, then so be it. I am also never going to agree that bullying or marginalizing people should be acceptable behavior.

I have been fed spoonful after spoonful of that kind of Republican bullshit over the last week, telling me to come together with them and accept that the people have spoken. First of all, the people did speak and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. The righteous indignation and hypocrisy I am now being subjected to, is simply more than I can take. People are coming out of the woodwork to defend him and to urge us losers to get over it, so we can now work together. You mean, like the last eight fucking years of congressional obstruction? Like the last eight years of calling President Obama Obummer. Yeah, whatever…. It is going to take a little longer than that to get over this debacle.

And another thing, folks. Please do not fucking condescend to me when I talk about the Electoral College being antiquated, archaic and having outlived its usefulness. I mean really, posting articles or videos directly to my page, so that I may learn more about the Electoral College. Are you fucking kidding me, right now? A civics lesson. Bloody hell. The Electoral College has its very roots in slavery and giving wealthy, white land and slave owners more of a vote than their northern counterparts. Slaves were literally counted as 3/5 of a person. So please, dear Republicans clinging to a false victory, based upon the enslavement of one race by another, explain to me how this is still relevant. I’ll wait….

Also, if you have not ever, heretofore posted any commentary on my Facebook pictures or posts, now is not the time to start. Try to curb your enthusiasm and blissful glee as you have, once again, slayed the dragon, the Evil and Crooked Killary.

The only thing this election cycle did for me was to normalize hatred and bigotry and henceforth, solidify my resolve to become more of a vocal activist in this country. Seriously, if you have something you would like to say to me right now about your President-elect, just stop, because I absolutely and unequivocally, do not want to hear it from you. I am dazed and confused and yes, disillusioned.

The only way I am going to get through the next four long years is with massive amounts of alcohol, comedy, a lot of books and some mindless reality television. Oh wait, I forgot…. Our President IS a reality star. I forgot. My bad.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
