Little vision

You have to start with a little vision to keep you focused and moving. It provides clarity to those who need it, and strength to those who create it.

Everyone talks about having a big vision. Something to change the world. They say they are drawn towards big visions, of big game changing ideas. As entrepreneurs we think this way and let ourselves get washed up in the big vision. We start to dream larger, we get so high in the sky that things can start to get fuzzy, how will we get there? Some of us never come back down. Some stay in the clouds thinking of another big idea, one after the other. Coming back down to earth isn’t so fun, you are no longer flying, nor floating, just working. Or maybe wandering.

No one talks about the little vision. They are afraid it isn’t big enough, isn’t sexy enough, it isn’t enough. That’s why they second guess their decisions and add more features to compensate. Yet what they don’t realize is that the little vision is sharp, it brings clarity. Clarity is important for that fragile idea to survive. The little vision is so tiny that you can’t picture it as something else. It either works for them or it doesn’t. The little vision requires you to focus. It requires you to stop dreaming and to execute. The little vision lives here on Earth. It’s in front of you, you can see it, you can grab it, and you can carry it. Others can do the same because it’s not high in the sky, so they take a piece of it and give it to a friend.

The little vision is how the big one gets started. Because the little vision doesn’t stay so little after all. As more people see and experience the little vision it only gets bigger. They do as much as they can with what they have in front of them. Then they start to explore and crave more.

The little vision is already massive. It’s daunting how much it takes to make it real. It doesn’t look that way from the outside but as you mold and create it, you know it is. That’s why the little vision can be powerful. It keeps you focused, it keeps you grounded. As you work on the little vision you can go to the clouds and dream but you don’t stay there for long. Because the little vision demands your attention. The big vision cannot exist without the little one. People will dismiss it, look over it, and pay no attention to it. But the little vision is real, it’s there, you’re holding it in your hands.

Let them stay in the clouds. Take the little vision up the mountain where your head can touch the clouds but still be on your feet.
