What Being Mentored By A 4x Mr. Universe Is Teaching Me As An Entrepreneur, week 2.

“How old are you?” he asks with an elevated brow. “Uhm, 21” I reply, wondering what kind of person starts of an interaction like that. “I’ve been listening to you talk to your friend about mindset and education. That’s rare for a 21 year old. I also see you work out. Whats your deal?” “My deal?” I think to my self. “What does he mean? what i do, who i am, what i like?” suddenly I’m clueless about my own “deal”. We talk for an hour. He speaks like a scholar but looks like a boulder of rocks and steel cables. He tells me he has studied international political science and has received scholarships and grants at a very young age. I’m blown away!

Not Just because my goal is to be a young renaissance man in ideals and stature, but because it seems success in ones passion is impossible without success in other fields. How do i know this? Take any great person, Ghandi, Arnold, Gary Gric of the Wu-tang clan, all excel in other fields. Lawyer, governor/actor, and astronomy enthusiast who has given talks at Harvard (yes, Gary), and last but not least my current mentor, Charlie Abboh, what i have learned is this:

Mindset. Mindset is the basis of any successful individual, regardless of what field one pursues. But, what does it mean? we hear a lot of public figures use that word, Tony Robins, Gary vee, Tai Lopez, Debra from book club explaining how she got twins on her first try. But, what does it really mean?

Well, When i watch Charlie push a weight that’s far from easy (or average) he closes his eyes and he speaks to himself. He says “Its time to be the champion. Its time to do what no one else can” and he pushes. why? why the mantra and the “hype”? Because when he closes his eyes, his minds eye opens, and what his focus is on becomes his true purpose at that moment. His cross. Its a battle not with the weights or the lactic acid buildup, its a battle with himself-first. Then, he speaks into reality the person who is able to succeed with the task at hand. The “champ” is the person who can. Because the champ has that mindset. He embodies who he believes is far more capable than who his limitations may say he is. The, where most of us fail, out of pure lack of will- he embodies the “champ”. He becomes who he believes deserves the desired result. Its beautiful to watch, seemingly so simple yet, the stuff of magic.

That is also the stuff of a successful entrepreneur. Elevating ones mindset to accept, enjoy and make the best out of challenges. But, understanding the greatest one is in our own minds. Elon Musk once said to a young man who asked for advice on succeeding as an entrepreneur; “If you need inspiring words, don’t do it.” and followed with: “If these words discourage you, you weren’t meant to do it.”

In summery, what my mentor,Charlie, and Elon Musk, Tony Robbins, any and every great individual with even greater pursuit have in common is, they

1. Become aware of the greatest possible challenge they can face
2. Make sure they know what values and skills are needed to overcome and succeed and makes that their foundation.
3. EMBODY and become the kind of person who attracts and completes that task.

So I now speak out and manifest my goals, do you?
