Hitch Behind the Scenes
Matches of the week…
Meg, 21, Manchester

Being at uni, every other person seems to be on Tinder. Initially I thought it was kind of cool, but when you start swiping and get sleazy messages from someone in your seminar it’s actually kind of creepy! I gave dating apps a break for a bit after I got bored of the whole thing, especially the element of competition
‘I’ve got 350 matches! Well i’ve got 600!’…bore off!
It was for this reason that I ignored my first invite to Hitch (sorry!) under the assumption that it would be the same old thing. Luckily my friend who hitched me up gave me a call and gave me the lowdown of the app, so I went ahead and downloaded, and wow am I glad I did! I love that I got to know Sean through chatting, rather than deciding whether I liked his face or not, and we had great banter…winning straight away. After we knew who each other was, we chatted on the app for a while which I really liked, because it felt really safe, before moving to texting.
I was always pretty cautious about giving out numbers to people I met online — stranger danger!…
but as Liv had introduced us I was totally cool with it. We’ve been seeing each other for about 3 months now and it’s going so well. We have loads of mutual friends from different music circles we’re both part of, so it’s super easy to hang out with people we both get on with too. I never thought i’d say it, but i’m glad I found another dating app — Hitch’s funky twist of friends getting involved is definitely more helpful and not at all interfering.

Working in the city, I have minimal time to date. Between walking my dog, seeing friends, and just generally organising my life, I have time for one date max a week — and definitely no swiping time for these other fad apps. In the past, i’ve paid for subscription platforms where a professional matchmaker will organise a date for me, hassle free. Whilst i’ve met some cool girls, we’ve never really had that spark, and I recently realised that it was really starting to burn through the cash.
I went on Hitch to hook up my brother with a girl who I work with,
mainly because they’re both skiing fanatics, and in return he set me up with one of his mates. I was dubious — my brother is 3 years younger than me, and still a little immature. We started chatting and actually spoke on the phone for about 3 weeks before we managed to arrange a date.
After the first date, we immediately arranged another.
We’re now about to have our 6th dinner and it’s going really well. My brother is also now dating the girl from my office (score!)…so I think I might create some more Hitches.
