Trump’s Hidden Tax Agenda

In proposing an immediate deduction for business investment, Trump has adopted a play-action fake from the Republican playbook. (Er, I sure hope I got the sports metaphor right.) Trump made the proposal in one line of his Detroit economic speech from last week, and it doesn’t even appear in the outline version of his plan posted on his campaign website. But as we tax types know, this one-liner would enact a huge policy change: Trump, like many flat taxers, is trying to smuggle in a consumption tax. For more, see my piece in today’s Huffington Post.
