Hello Samurai

Located on High Street in Sai Ying Pun, Katsumoto is a newbie under Bistro Concept Group, which also runs some other restaurants in the hood, including Flying Pig Bistro, Flying Pig Deli, El Macho and Lobster Shack.

All the pretty Japanese style paper umbrellas

The samurai facing the street is quite spectacle. And these pretty Japanese style paper umbrellas do bring so much Japanese restaurant vibes. Great work!

Miso soup

I came for the famous M5 Beef Sando. But spending HKD$200+ for lunch seems too fancy for an ordinary weekday. I’ll probably save it for another occasion. (P.S. price on the menu has gone up, probably because of the popularity of the sando) So I went for the Unagi Donburi lunch set, which was quite good indeed. The lunch set started with a typical miso soup with tofu pieces.

Salad

The set also came with a salad, which was a huge portion! I wish there were more sesame dressing for this western style salad…

Unagi Donburi

This Unagi Donburi — Japanese eel rice bento was surprisingly good, in terms of the quantity of eel. As for the quality, don’t expect to much, it isn’t the kind of Japanese eel you normally have in a legit Japanese restaurant. I actually wonder if that was eel…

Side story, when I got the bill, I was genuinely surprised by the price, as HKD$15 was charged for my nasty Coke Zero which tasted like sugary water without fizz. I thought only the drink items on the second line on the menu would cost the extra HKD$15, which was fair enough for a ginger ale. But for a nasty coke like this? Gosh…really unacceptable. And the menu is really deceiving, (remember they already marked up the price for the beef sando?) so please take a good look!
