A cold, foggy Sunday cries for a relaxed day indoors. Since there are not that many new experiences to have at home — at least few that I would write about — Silia and I decided to head to a museum. As I have no idea about art the museum of choice was the Museum of Illusions.

I, personally, have never heard of the museum before Michael Batko visited it a few weeks ago but apparently it is very well known — well enough that we had to queue for a 20–25 minutes to get in.

The waiting time passes quickly, however, as they give the people in front a logic game that gets you a free ticket if you complete it within a few minutes. Silia was very disappointed that she could not do it. The disappointment grew even further inside the museum but more about this later.

I felt like the monkey in the dinner scene of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

The museum is definitely geared towards children but there were surprisingly many couples and older folks there. So single people take note: the museum is definitely an interesting alternative to the usual coffee or bar for a first date.

Inside, there are many things to try out that make your brain go crazy. It is amazing how easy the mind can be tricked if you just paint some lines in a certain way or rotate a pipe in a certain direction.

Silia struggling with the towers of Hanoi

Right when you enter the museum, you can also find the towers of Hanoi. This is not really an illusion to be honest but more of a logic game but nevertheless, Silia attempted to solve it. I would like to point out the “attempted” part because after going strong for 80% of the game, she made a critical mistake, lost track completely and had to give up which bothered her all day long.

Even despite the obvious disappointment it is worth visiting the museum, despite the 12 euro entry fee for adults. Still, I can advise not coming at 12 on a Sunday unless you enjoy waiting. You may want to bring Aspirin, though, as some things there really make your head hurt.
