Getting Back to Writing

A few months ago I started a new job. According to some, changing jobs is a life event and you can expect it to mess with your energy levels. In my case: I didn’t only change jobs, I changed careers. I went from Agile Consultant to Product Owner at an educational publisher. I am very happy with the new position, but I do miss writing.

Why I stopped writing

I started out on Medium publishing anything I wanted to write about. It’s been a great ride. I have always wanted to be a writer and Medium allowed me to get me an audience a tad bigger than when I would have opened my own blog.

After a while I started tinkering with extensions and decided to write a couple for Medium. This was something I hadn’t done before either and I reached a lot more people with writing code than by writing my little tanka’s, rants and stories. Great stuff.

A couple in their bedroom, smiling. A black-haired woman is holding binoculars while a bearded man in a white shirt is pointing to something in a book he is holding open.

I still have a very large backlog of things I want to write about. The same goes for all the things I want to do with my extensions. But the thing is… I don’t write anymore.

Why? The usual. Just as about everyone else I struggle to find time to write. Due to my recent career-switch, I also struggle to find the energy to sit down, clear my head and start hammering away on the keyboard.
