If you’re making the switch from Android to iPhone, or vice versa, it’s the perfect time to unshackle yourself from the locked-in mobile operating system ecosystem. It can be a little tricky to access and transfer all of your Google Drive content, since Google obviously doesn’t want to see you go. If you use the Upthere Home desktop app, though, it can be pretty easy.

Step-by-step guide

To start, you’ll need to download and launch the Upthere Home app on your desktop computer.

If you don’t have the Google Drive app for your desktop computer, you’ll also need to download that before getting started.

Once you have this set up

  1. Open a Finder / File Explorer window and navigate to the Google Drive folder.
  2. Click the first file in the Google Drive folder.

3. Hold down the shift key and click the last file in list, in the Google Drive folder.

4. Click and drag the entire selection into the Upthere Home app.

And that’s it. All your files from Google Drive will be saved to Upthere Home. You can track the progress of the upload in Flow within Upthere Home.

Once your upload has completed, you can feel free to delete the Google Drive app and all the local files taking space on your computer!

Google Drive alternate approach

The alternate approach for Google Drive is to export your data from Google directly. If you have been using Google Drive and/or Google Photos for quite some time, this approach is recommended as it is the easiest way to ensure all your historical content transfers safely.

  1. Select options for your Google Export and wait for them to deliver your archive.

2. Open a Finder / File Explorer window and navigate to the downloaded archive file.

3. Double click the archive to extract it to a folder.

4. Click and drag the folder into the Upthere Home app.

And that’s it. All your files from Google Drive will be saved to Upthere Home. You can track the progress of the upload in Flow within Upthere Home.

Upthere Home is available for Android, iPhone, Mac, and Windows.
